Summary
- Tayari Jones' new novel 'Kin' was chosen for Oprah's Book Club.
- Winfrey surprised Jones with a personal visit at her publisher's office.
- This marks the second time Jones' work has been selected by Winfrey.

Oprah Winfrey personally visited Tayari Jones at her publisher's offices in Manhattan to announce her latest book club selection. The chosen novel, "Kin," is Jones' fifth and was published on Tuesday. Winfrey's surprise visit was a departure from her usual cold calls or video announcements.
Jones' novel "Kin" follows motherless girls from Honeysuckle, Louisiana, starting in the 1950s. Winfrey described the book as a "trip back home" that highlights the strong bonds of family, whether biological or chosen. This selection marks the second time Winfrey has chosen Jones' work for her renowned book club.
Jones, who previously had her 2018 novel "An American Marriage" selected, called the repeated honor a "stunning gift." She emphasized the power of storytelling to heal and Winfrey's decades-long dedication to elevating diverse voices. The partnership with Starbucks for Oprah's Book Club concluded late in 2025.
