Love's Ocean Deep: A New BBC Drama Unfolds

Filming has concluded for "Open Water," a new eight-part drama series destined for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. This compelling series is an adaptation of Caleb Azumah Nelson's celebrated debut novel, bringing his poignant story to life with a talented cast.

Toheeb Jimoh and Dujonna Gift star as Marcus and Effie, respectively. Marcus is an aspiring photographer balancing his retail job, while Effie studies dance in Dublin. Their initial encounter sparks an immediate, powerful connection, but a significant boundary arises when Marcus discovers Effie is in a relationship with his friend.

Their paths continue to cross through a shared artistic project documenting Black creatives in London. This proximity fuels a growing friendship that challenges the boundaries of desire and commitment. The series promises an emotionally rich narrative exploring longing, belonging, and the courage required to embrace love.

"Open Water" was filmed on location in Birmingham and London. The production is a collaboration between Mam Tor Productions and B-Side Productions. Caleb Azumah Nelson serves as lead writer and director, also executive producing alongside other key figures from the production companies and the BBC. An original score will be composed by Cassie Kinoshi.
