Onslaught Movie: Action-Packed Thrills Fall Flat

Onslaught, the latest offering from A24, presents a compelling premise of a military veteran fighting off an invasion of super soldiers. However, the film has been criticized for its uneven tonal shifts, attempting to juggle action, horror, comedy, and thriller elements without cohesive success.

The movie's genre-bending approach is a significant drawback, with jarring transitions between intense action and unconvincing campy humor. A particularly criticized aspect is the forced inclusion of a child character, which some viewers found to be a manipulative plot device rather than a necessary element.

Despite these narrative shortcomings, Onslaught is recognized for its strengths. The film boasts strong performances from its cast, effective pacing, and impressive special effects. The direction is also noted as competent, contributing to a generally well-crafted movie that ultimately fails to unify its disparate parts into a satisfying whole.
