Summary
- Previously cut footage from classic episodes discovered.
- New clips offer greater character depth and humor.
- Digitized content may lead to HD restorations.
A treasure trove of previously unseen footage from the classic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses has been uncovered. Comedy archive specialist Richard Latto discovered cut clips from various episodes, including the iconic 'The Jolly Boys' Outing,' which was filmed and set in Margate. Latto expressed that these unearthed scenes reveal greater depth and texture to the characters, noting they remain incredibly funny despite being removed for time restrictions.
New footage from 'The Jolly Boys' Outing' includes extended sequences of the coach trip to Margate and the group's rollercoaster ride at Dreamland. This episode, which originally aired in 1989, depicted Del Boy, Rodney, and Uncle Albert on a chaotic journey with other regulars from the Nag's Head pub. The episode historically garnered over 20 million viewers and has inspired tours.
Much of the newly found content consists of scenes that were cut to meet time constraints but are of high quality. Latto has successfully digitized these scenes and hopes this process will pave the way for a full restoration of the show's episodes in high definition, allowing for extended versions to be presented.
