Summary
- New single 'The Cure' marks a new era for Olivia Rodrigo.
- The song contrasts with previous releases by focusing on self-reliance.
- Rodrigo clarified the song title is a coincidence, not band-related.

Olivia Rodrigo has unveiled 'The Cure,' a new single produced by long-time collaborator Dan Nigro, signaling the start of a fresh artistic chapter. The accompanying music video, directed by Cat Solen and Jamie Gerin, features Rodrigo as a nurse in a midcentury hospital striving to save hearts, only to end up as a patient.
This release follows the lead single 'Drop Dead,' which celebrated the early joys of falling in love with a video set in Versailles. In contrast, 'The Cure' delves into a more mature perspective, acknowledging that romantic relationships are not a panacea for life's challenges. Rodrigo expressed that the song explores a viewpoint she hadn't previously articulated with such maturity.
Rodrigo recently addressed the song's title on the Elvis Duran show, clarifying that it is a happy coincidence and not a direct reference to the iconic band The Cure. She revealed her personal friendship with the band's lead singer, Robert Smith, whom she speaks with weekly. The single is set to be featured on her upcoming album, 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,' due out this June.
