- The song's emotive capture resonated with director Emerald Fennell.

Folk singer Olivia Chaney's previously unreleased rendition of "Dark Eyed Sailor" is now featured in the film "Wuthering Heights." This 19th-century British ballad, about a sailor's return to his love, was recorded by Chaney in 2013 for a BBC Radio set. Despite mastering it for several album proposals, the track was never officially released until now.
Director Emerald Fennell specifically sought out Chaney's raw, emotional recording for the film, which primarily showcases an original score. Chaney's solo version accompanies pivotal scenes, underscoring Cathy's emotional turmoil. The recording captured Chaney during a period of personal heartbreak, infusing the performance with a unique vulnerability that resonated with Fennell.
Chaney has now officially released her cover of "Dark Eyed Sailor" on February 13th. She is set to perform the song and other works with her new band, News from Nowhere, at Kings Place in London beginning February 27th. An upcoming album inspired by Henry Purcell is anticipated this November.
Living in Yorkshire, the setting of "Wuthering Heights," Chaney feels her contribution to the film is deeply serendipitous. Her connection to the region, where she wrote her second album and met her husband, adds a personal full-circle element to this cinematic moment.
