Art is also a central feature, with 28 original works commissioned from artists like Maya Lin and Julie Mehretu. The Forum building includes a recording studio, auditorium, restaurant, and cafe.
Michelle Obama emphasized the center's connection to the South Side, stating, "Our hope is that it can serve as an economic engine, a cultural hub, and a space where neighbors can gather." The center also offers free community spaces, including a branch of the Chicago Public Library, a basketball court, and a garden, reflecting the Obamas' personal interests.
