Oak Ridge will host the Flatwater Tales Storytelling Festival on June 5 and 6, showcasing both national and local talent. The festival will feature renowned storytellers such as Elizabeth Ellis, Sheila Arnold, Josh Goforth, and Bil Lepp, offering a blend of historical narratives, humor, and Appalachian music.
A unique event planned for the festival is a celebration of America's 250th birthday, combining music and storytelling to explore the nation's founding tenets: 'Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.' This special program will include performances by the Oak Ridge Chorus.
Additionally, the festival introduces a 'Homegrown Teller Contest' where local amateurs can showcase their storytelling skills. Bil Lepp will emcee this event, which will allow the audience to choose the winner, who will then compete at the International Storytelling Festival.
Proceeds from ticket sales for the Flatwater Tales Storytelling Festival will benefit community service projects organized by the Oak Ridge Rotary Clubs. The festival aims to uplift storytelling as an art form and support local initiatives.
