The 2026 New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) is set to run from May 28 to May 31. The festival will commence with a 4K-restored presentation of the iconic Bollywood film "Sholay" on its opening night preview on May 28. The following day, May 29, marks the opening night film, the BAFTA-winning Manipuri-language movie "Boong," which director Laksmipriya Devi will attend.
"Boong" follows a young boy's journey in Manipur, exploring themes of identity and family. The festival's centerpiece will be the world premiere of "Flowers of Acacia," a Punjabi-language film addressing patriarchal customs. Special screenings include the 25th anniversary of "Dil Chahta Hai." The festival will conclude on May 31 with the New York premiere of "Tighee" (Motherhood), a Marathi-language film by Jeejivisha Kale. The film explores themes of sacrifice and unresolved history between two estranged sisters.
