Actor Hints "Now You See Me" Franchise Behind Louvre Jewelry Heist

According to a recent news report, actor Jesse Eisenberg has hinted that the high-profile jewelry heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris last month may have been a promotional stunt for the "Now You See Me" movie franchise.

During an appearance on "The Tonight Show" on October 26th, 2025, Eisenberg, who stars in the "Now You See Me" films, was asked by host Jimmy Fallon to address the online speculation about the burglary's possible connection to the movies. Rather than deny involvement, Eisenberg played along, joking that "it was" the marketing team behind the third installment of the franchise.

"You know, we're trying to get people back to theaters," Eisenberg added, "And there's only so many, kind of, cute TikTok videos I can make. And we had to do something a little outside the box."

While Eisenberg was clearly joking, the connection is not entirely surprising, given that the "Now You See Me" films follow a group of magicians who use their abilities to pull off elaborate heists during their stage shows. Eisenberg even noted that he was impressed by the speed and efficiency the Louvre thieves displayed in executing their crime, which took less than eight minutes to complete.

"When I read about that, I remember thinking like, 'Oh they did a good job,'" he told Fallon. "Almost, like, with the authority to evaluate, you know, how quick they were -- which was very impressive."

However, Eisenberg also poked fun at himself for initially thinking the thieves might have been trying to do some good with the stolen goods, much like his character does in the movies. "They are probably not doing that," he acknowledged, "But, just the way my mind works from doing these movies for 15 years ... I have been kind of brainwashed by these wonderful movies to think anybody doing anything bad or stealing anything is ultimately doing it for a good reason."
