24 Jul
Summary
- New stained-glass windows depicting Pentecost will be unveiled in December.
- The windows are being created by artist Claire Tabouret and Simon-Marq.
- Removed windows will be restored and displayed at two French heritage sites.

In December, Notre Dame Cathedral will unveil six new stained-glass windows, featuring biblical verses about Pentecost. These contemporary works, created by artist Claire Tabouret in collaboration with Simon-Marq, are on schedule for completion and installation in October-November.
The French state is funding this project to replace six of the seven historical windows in the nave's south aisle, originally crafted in 1864. Despite some heritage campaigners questioning the cost and relevance of replacing undamaged historic windows, officials emphasize the project's fit within the cathedral's long history of contributions.
The removed 1864 windows, currently undergoing asbestos removal, will be restored. Four will be displayed at the Château de Pierrefonds, and two at the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine in Paris, preserving their heritage value.
