Summary
- René Redzepi faces allegations of verbal and physical abuse.
- Former staff detailed violent punishments and psychological torment.
- Noma, a famed restaurant, closed its doors in 2023.

Former employees of the world-renowned restaurant Noma have come forward with serious accusations against its founding chef, René Redzepi. The allegations, detailed in a recent report, describe instances of both physical and verbal abuse from 2009 to 2017. These accounts include Redzepi allegedly punching staff, using utensils as weapons, and inflicting psychological torment through intimidation and public humiliation.
One incident from February 2014 involved Redzepi reportedly forcing a sous-chef to make a public confession before allowing staff back into the kitchen. Another former cook recounted being physically assaulted multiple times. Despite these traumatic experiences, some ex-staff members do not regret their time at Noma due to its cultural significance, though they feel Redzepi owes them a further apology.
Redzepi, who has previously apologized for past behavior, stated he has since sought therapy and developed better anger management techniques. He acknowledged that his past actions were harmful and expressed deep remorse to those affected. The Noma organization, which closed its restaurant in 2023, now focuses on luxury goods and pop-up dining experiences, including an upcoming event in Los Angeles.
