Throughout their career from 1992 to 1994, Nirvana garnered five VMA awards, including multiple wins for Best Alternative Video. Despite their indelible mark on music history, the band's output was curtailed by the tragic death of frontman Kurt Cobain in 1994.

The decision to bestow the Video Vanguard Award upon Nirvana has sparked debate among fans online.
