On October 22, 2025, the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards unveiled its finalists for the year, showcasing 40 photographs and 10 videos that capture the hilarity of the natural world. The free photography competition, founded in 2015, celebrates the playful and amusing moments observed in wildlife, with the goal of promoting habitat conservation.
This year, the panel of 16 judges reviewed nearly 10,000 submissions from 108 countries to select the finalists. The entries include images of a bashful-seeming elephant, a dancing grasshopper, and a group of gossiping big cats, among other lighthearted scenes. The winners of the various categories, including Best Bird, Best Fish, and Best Reptile, as well as the Nikon Junior, Nikon Young Photographer, Nikon Video Clip, and People's Choice awards, will be announced on December 9 at the Oxo Gallery in London. The winning photos will then be showcased in the gallery from December 10 to 14.
The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards aim to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation, with the support of Nikon, which has been a long-time partner of the competition. The company's general manager, Stefan Maier, expressed excitement about the competition's ability to "generate vital awareness surrounding conservation" through these inspiring and humorous images and videos.
