Los Angeles-based Turkish actress Cemre Paksoy, known for her roles in "The Affair" and "As the Crow Flies," stars as Eleni Sadik, the lead in the new erotic thriller "Night Nurse." The film marks the directorial debut of Georgia Bernstein and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It centers on Eleni, a nurse hired to care for an enigmatic patient in a luxury retirement community, leading them into a complex dynamic of phone scams and blurring desires.
Paksoy described Eleni as "a strange woman with a tendency for perversion," a role she found compelling due to its exploration of the compulsive nature of caregiving and obsession in relationships. She also noted the film's fresh take on erotic thrillers in a contemporary, hyper-accessible world, emphasizing the eroticism derived from desire and desperation.
In preparation, Paksoy drew inspiration from directors like Catherine Breillat and performances by Isabelle Huppert in "The Piano Teacher." "Night Nurse" is set for release in U.S. theaters on July 10, distributed by Independent Film Company. Paksoy is also collaborating with Bernstein on another erotic thriller focused on restraint and yearning.
Paksoy expressed no fear about potential censorship issues in Turkey, viewing the film as special with a clear point of view. She hopes "Night Nurse" will be seen globally and looks forward to working with more auteur directors on projects with unique visions.
