1 Oct
Summary
- Cage misses when MCU films focused on story over action.
- He compares newer MCU movies to a 'glorified WWE'.
- Cage prefers detective stories, citing Spider-Noir.
Nicolas Cage recently shared his critical view of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's current trajectory during a Q&A session. He expressed a preference for earlier MCU films, which he felt prioritized nuanced storytelling and character development over excessive action sequences.
Cage described his perception of recent MCU installments as being "well-funded and glorified WWE." He noted that while he appreciates the talent involved, the constant shift to fight scenes detracts from the narrative substance he valued in the franchise's origins.
He contrasted this with his experience on Prime Video's "Spider-Noir," a detective series he enjoyed for its mystery-driven plot. Cage indicated a desire for the MCU to reintegrate deeper storytelling, moving beyond what he sees as an overreliance on combat sequences.
