- New ownership aims to develop Niche into a proud Sheffield super-brand.
Sheffield's renowned Niche nightclub, a venue synonymous with the emergence of 'bassline' music, is set to make a significant return. Established in 1992 within a former cutlery warehouse, Niche evolved from an underground spot into a pivotal force in UK club culture.
The club faced closure in 2005 due to increased police scrutiny following incidents. Despite subsequent relocations across Sheffield, it permanently shut down in 2018 after a series of disturbances. This marked the end of an era for the influential venue.
Now, Niche is being reimagined as a contemporary music and cultural brand under new ownership. A new club night is scheduled for October 17, signaling the beginning of its revival. The previous owner, Steve Baxendale, passed away in 2019.
Helen Baxendale has transferred ownership of the Niche brand to a new Sheffield-based team with extensive experience in music, DJing, and club promotion. Operations director Drew Garber expressed a commitment to preserving the club's legacy while fostering a sense of pride and providing a platform for current and future generations.
