As Blake Shelton's new singing competition show The Road prepares to make its debut on October 19, 2025, his former colleagues from The Voice are still finding ways to poke fun at the country music star. Two years after Shelton turned his Big Red Chair for the last time on The Voice, he is now getting trolled by his old friends, with Niall Horan surprisingly being the one to start the friendly banter.
Horan, a former One Direction member who served as a coach on The Voice, has always been considered a "son" to Shelton. However, in a recent Instagram video, the ex-boy-bander couldn't resist taking a shot at his mentor's country singing skills. Horan tried his hand at covering Thomas Rhett's song "Old Tricks," which features Shelton, and even threw in a playful yodel at the end.
Not to be outdone, The Voice host Carson Daly also chimed in, comparing Horan's version to that of his Barmageddon co-host Shelton. Despite the friendly jabs, Daly and Shelton have become close friends over their 12 years working together on The Voice, with Daly even officiating Shelton's wedding to Gwen Stefani.
While Shelton may no longer be sharing the screen with his former Voice colleagues, he remains passionate about nurturing up-and-coming musical talent. His new show, The Road, follows 12 budding country artists as they open for Keith Urban on tour, with the winner receiving a $250,000 prize and a recording contract.
