My Brother the Minotaur, the inaugural animated series from Northern Ireland to be featured on Apple TV, premiered in April and has garnered significant critical attention. This fantasy adventure series centers on a minotaur, a mythical creature half-boy and half-bull, who is discovered and raised within human society.
The creation of this series involved years of development, collaboration, and passion from Dog Ears and Cartoon Saloon. The concept originated from creator Donal Mangan's school notebook sketches and was initially pitched through Northern Ireland Screen's Creative Animation program. Mangan, who also co-created the successful Puffin Rock, aimed to explore themes of feeling different and finding one's place in the world.
Drawing inspiration from both Greek mythology and Irish folklore, the team crafted a unique narrative that blends familiar elements with original storytelling. The production reached a peak of approximately 180 individuals and boasts a high-profile voice cast, including Brian Cox and Michael Sheen. The series' debut on Apple TV represents a major milestone, bringing years of dedication to a global platform.
