- Their on-screen romance is fictional, not based on their real relationship.
- Showrunner Gail Lerner was fired two weeks before the premiere.
The new NBC sitcom "Newlyweds" features real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly as its stars, but the show's narrative is fictional and does not draw from their personal lives. Daly, 70, and Leoni, 60, portray a couple who marry quickly after a whirlwind romance. Their characters navigate their new life with the help of Jeanie's children and James' ex-wife.
Daly and Leoni, who first met in 2014 while working on "Madam Secretary," dated for over a decade before their marriage in 2025. Despite their strong real-life connection, "Newlyweds" explores a completely fabricated storyline.
The series also experienced behind-the-scenes drama when showrunner Gail Lerner was fired on October 9, 2026, just two weeks prior to the show's premiere. Lerner cited "creative differences" for her dismissal but expressed pride in the first six episodes she helmed, wishing the show success under new showrunner Bruce Helford.
