A fresh chapter is unfolding for the Planet of the Apes franchise. Josh Friedman, a writer recognized for his work on "Avatar: The Way of Water," is set to script an all-new film. This upcoming project represents a significant creative pivot, as it will not serve as a direct continuation of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." Despite "Kingdom's" considerable worldwide earnings of $397.3 million, the studio is opting for a different narrative path.
Longtime contributors Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who were instrumental in previous installments, are back to produce. They will collaborate with director Wes Ball, who gained acclaim for his work on "WandaVision" and the pilot for "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters." Scott Aversano, executive vice president of production, will oversee the project for 20th Century Studios. Friedman's established relationship with the studio, highlighted by his contributions to the "Avatar" films, underscores his suitability for this new venture.
