Sony Pictures is preparing to revive the Men In Black franchise, with a new film now in development. Chris Bremner, the screenwriter behind the successful Bad Boys For Life, has been tasked with writing the script for the next installment in the beloved sci-fi comedy series. Plot details remain under wraps, but early indications point towards a potential return for original star Will Smith.
Sources indicate that upon completion of the script, Will Smith will be among the first to receive it, with the intention of him reprising his role as Agent J. While the exact capacity of his character, whether a lead or a passing-of-the-torch role, is yet to be determined, the plan is to feature Agent J in the initial draft. However, it is stressed that Smith is not currently attached to the project and his commitment hinges on reviewing the script.
The Men In Black franchise, like Bad Boys, is considered a valuable asset by Sony. The series has collectively grossed over $1.9 billion globally. Although producer deals are not yet in place for this new venture, past installments were produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. Bremner's recent success with the Bad Boys films and his work on Smith-led projects like the upcoming Netflix thriller Fast & Loose solidify his position as a sought-after writer.
