New Girl Reunion: Creator Denies Scripts Amidst Cast Hype

The possibility of a "New Girl" reunion series has been officially put on hold, according to show creator Liz Meriwether. Meriwether stated on August 29, 2026, that "there are no scripts" for a potential reunion, playfully countering recent comments made by cast member Max Greenfield. Greenfield had previously suggested that amazing reunion scripts were in development, sparking widespread speculation.

Meriwether, speaking at the season finale screening of her new series "Furious" in West Hollywood, clarified her position. She humorously noted that any scripts she might have written had gathered numerous 'notes' from the cast. She suggested that the ongoing playful interaction between the cast and herself might, in itself, be the 'reunion' for now.

While a new series is not in the immediate future, the "New Girl" cast, including Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr., is slated to reunite. They are scheduled to attend the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles on October 10th, where they will be honored with the Rising Phoenix Award. Greenfield is set to host this gala, which recognizes the series' central theme of new beginnings.

Meriwether also provided an update on her current project: adapting Britney Spears's memoir "The Woman in Me" for a film directed by Jon M. Chu. She described the process of translating an eight-hour story into a two-hour movie as an interesting challenge, as she has primarily worked on longer formats recently. Meriwether expressed her desire to meet Spears but noted that discussions are still in the early stages.
