A major $150 million Saudi production, 'Western Desert Warrior,' has finally arrived in theaters, opening across 1,010 screens. This epic film, co-written and directed by Rupert Wyatt, stars Anthony Mackie, Aiysha Hart, and Ben Kingsley. Shot over four years in Saudi Arabia with significant support from Neom and MBC Studios, it depicts a princess fleeing an emperor and uniting warring tribes.
This week also sees the wide release of David MacKenzie's London-set action thriller 'Fuze,' starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, which debuts on 1,194 screens. The film is centered around the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb and a subsequent heist.
Furthermore, the SXSW Audience Award-winning dark comedy thriller 'Over Your Dead Body,' directed by Jorma Taccone and featuring Samara Weaving and Jason Segel, premieres on 1,550 screens. It follows an unhappy couple who retreat to a cabin with plans to kill each other, only to have their schemes complicated by unexpected guests.
Sony Pictures Classics is giving a moderate release to 'I Swear,' a biopic about John Davidson, a Scottish advocate for Tourette syndrome. The film, starring Robert Aramayo, chronicles Davidson's life and his campaign for understanding and acceptance of the condition. It has already garnered significant awards, including three BAFTAs.
Additional limited releases include Cole Webley's drama 'Omaha,' starring John Magaro, which premiered at Sundance, and Sho Miyake's drama 'Two Seasons, Two Strangers,' which won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. An a cappella documentary, 'Just Sing,' and the Australian family drama 'Kangaroo Island' are also making their debuts.
