Tiago Guedes directs "Aquí," a new film adapted from J.M. Coetzee's "Jesus Trilogy," set to premiere in the Cannes Premiere section. Films Boutique has acquired worldwide sales rights for the feature.
The cast includes notable actors such as Manolo Solo, Patricia López Arnaiz, Sergi López, and Lambert Wilson, alongside newcomers Álex Peláez and Hugo Encuentra. The narrative unfolds in a new land where identities are redefined and pasts are shed.
Simón finds himself responsible for David, a child he met during their journey. Driven by an unknown conviction, Simón seeks David's mother, Inés. A unique bond forms between them, even as society's rigid rules challenge their unconventional connection. David's resistance to conformity highlights themes of imagination and freedom.
Co-written by Guedes and Luís Araújo, the screenplay draws from Coetzee's acclaimed literary work. J.M. Coetzee, a Nobel Prize laureate and two-time Booker Prize winner, is slated to attend the festival to support the film's debut.
Jean Christophe Simon of Films Boutique praised the film as a "pure cinematic experience" and a highlight for festival-goers. The production involved A Leopardo Filmes, RTP, Alfama Films, and APM, with associate producers from Spain, France, and Germany.
