Summary
- New Edition, formed in Roxbury, Boston, is nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
- The group's journey began 43 years ago with their 1983 debut album.
- The nomination occurred just before the launch of their New Edition Way tour.

Nearly half a century after its formation in Roxbury, Boston's Orchard Park public housing projects, the vocal group New Edition has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This nomination is a culmination of a long-held dream for the members: Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, and Ralph Tresvant.
The group's journey began 43 years ago with the release of their 1983 debut album, "Candy Girl." The recognition comes as New Edition is set to launch their "New Edition Way" tour on Friday, March 13, accompanied by Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton.
News of the nomination reached the group via a group text from their managers shortly before a performance in Cleveland, Ohio, the home of the Rock Hall. Members Ronnie DeVoe expressed that the timing felt divinely orchestrated, occurring just as they were leaving Cleveland.
New Edition is among 17 nominees vying for induction. The list includes other notable artists such as Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, and the Wu-Tang Clan. While nominated, the group acknowledges that a nomination does not guarantee induction, emphasizing that continued effort is necessary for the final selection.
