A new exhibition titled 'Becoming' has opened at Akar Prakar's recently launched gallery space in Delhi. Curated by Siddhi Shailendra, the show presents works from six distinct artists: C. Douglas, Debasish Mukherjee, Ganesh Haloi, Jayashree Chakravarty, Leang Seckon, and Manish Pushkale.
These artists' practices, developed over many decades, are examined to understand visual language shifts influenced by material, experience, and form. The exhibition focuses on dialogue between these six practices, highlighting their approaches to material, memory, and their surroundings.
The new gallery itself, designed by architect Ashish Karode, features a minimalist aesthetic with museum-grade lighting and an adaptable layout. Founded in 2004 by Reena and Abhijit Lath, Akar Prakar's expansion signifies a commitment to incorporating younger artistic voices while honoring their legacy of building collections over three generations.
