A new animated feature, 'Blacky The Metal Arm Cat,' is currently in development by the creative minds behind Hong Kong's record-breaking animated film, 'Another World.' This 2D project is written and directed by Nic Ho, based on his celebrated short film.
The narrative is set in the ancient metropolis of Golden City, focusing on a legendary warrior who, after a severe betrayal, is saved by a young mechanic. This mechanic equips him with a custom mechanical arm, but her subsequent disappearance compels the warrior to delve into a mysterious underworld and confront an alien presence.
Director Nic Ho describes the film as a reflection of the current era's rapid technological and societal shifts, emphasizing its exploration of rediscovering oneself after loss. The film will blend high-stakes action with urban fantasy and imaginative world-building.
Concurrently, the producers of 'Another World' are also expanding its universe through a webtoon collaboration with Korean studio Creative SUMM, supported by Hong Kong's CreateSmart Initiative. This webtoon will focus on the fan-favorite character Dark Sky and serves as a prelude to future film and series installments.
