Nélisse, Akerman Star in Netflix's 'This Summer Will Be Different'

Malin Akerman and Megan Follows are set to star in the Netflix Canada adaptation of Carley Fortune's 2024 romance novel, 'This Summer Will Be Different.' The 10-episode series will feature Sophie Nélisse as the lead character, Lucy Ashby.

Akerman has been cast as Aunt Stacey, a key mentor figure to Lucy. Fortune expressed particular excitement for this role, calling Aunt Stacey a personal favorite. Follows will portray Lucy's mother, Cheryl Ashby. Fortune noted this casting was a dream come true, citing Follows' iconic portrayal of Anne Shirley in the beloved 'Anne of Green Gables' adaptation.

Nadine Bhabha and Matias Lucas have also been announced as part of the cast. The novel, and subsequently the series, is set on Prince Edward Island, drawing inspiration from Fortune's own experiences and L.M. Montgomery's classic tales. The story follows Lucy's summer romance and the complexities that arise with her best friend's family.
