Netflix is revisiting the police helicopter action thriller genre with a new feature titled "Helo." The streaming giant, known for hits like "The Rip" and "Apex," has tapped Andrés Baiz to direct.
Baiz, who has a strong track record with Netflix on crime series such as "Narcos" and "Griselda," recently completed production on the Jamie Foxx sports drama "Fight for 84." This new project is being fast-tracked.
Edward Berger and Luke Rivett developed the concept, bringing it to Netflix executives. Patrick Aison, known for his work on the recent "Predator" films, has been enlisted to write the script. The studio was reportedly impressed by Aison's fresh take on the police helicopter angle, a subgenre largely absent since the 1983 film "Blue Thunder."
"Helo" is being positioned as a blend of "End of Watch" and "Top Gun," promising intense action and compelling storytelling. Baiz's directorial contributions to Netflix's acclaimed crime dramas are expected to bring a gritty authenticity to the film.
