4 Oct
Summary
- Netflix premieres 4 highly anticipated titles at Mostra SP film festival
- Eugenio Derbez wants to direct in English after Netflix success
- Brazilian cinema gaining global recognition through Netflix partnerships
As of October 4th, 2025, Netflix is making a significant impact at the São Paulo International Film Festival, known as the Mostra SP. The streaming giant has chosen to premiere four of its most highly anticipated titles at the festival, including Guillermo del Toro's epic "Frankenstein," Noah Baumbach's "Jay Kelly," Shih-Ching Tsou's "Left-Handed Girl," and Daniel Rezende's "The Son of a Thousand Men" starring Rodrigo Santoro.
Elisabetta Zenatti, Netflix's VP of content for Brazil, has described this as the company's "strongest participation" since the start of their partnership with the Mostra. The festival's bold and embracing energy, which celebrates both established and emerging voices in cinema, aligns perfectly with the themes of "Frankenstein," a story about reclaiming one's identity and "otherness."
Alongside the Netflix premieres, the festival will also host the Latin American debuts of "Jay Kelly" and "Left-Handed Girl." "Jay Kelly," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, stars George Clooney as a famous actor seeking to find himself again, with the support of his devoted manager, played by Adam Sandler.
