Netflix has seen an explosive surge in viewership for its Korean content, with titles across film and TV amassing at least 4.5 billion streams since July 2023. The global sensation 'Squid Game' has been a major driver, with its three seasons collectively garnering close to half-a-billion views. The franchise's latest seasons, Season 2 and Season 3, premiered in December 2024 and June 2025 respectively, securing top spots on Netflix's most-watched lists.
Beyond the 'Squid Game' universe, other Korean series like 'King the Land,' 'True Beauty,' 'My Demon,' and 'Queen of Tears' have also achieved significant viewership, ranking among Netflix's top 150 shows globally. These successes validate Netflix's strategic commitment, including a $2.5 billion investment in Korean originals in 2023. The streamer plans to launch over 30 Korean originals in 2026, aiming to build on the success of over 210 Korean titles that have hit global top ten lists in the past five years.
