13 Jan
Summary
- Netflix officially opened its studios at Fort Monmouth.
- The facility is expected to create thousands of union jobs.
- The first sound studios could open in about 18 months.

Netflix has officially established its presence at the former Fort Monmouth, a significant 300-acre site in Oceanport, New Jersey. The streaming giant's Co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, marked the occasion, emphasizing the positive homecoming for the company. This development is poised to bring substantial economic benefits, including thousands of union jobs and billions in economic impact to the region.
Governor Phil Murphy highlighted the project's complexity, calling it the most significant initiative undertaken during his eight years in office. Demolition of the site commenced last May, paving the way for twelve world-class sound stages. Currently, Netflix is already supporting over 500 jobs in New Jersey through two film productions.
While the community anticipates economic growth, some residents express concerns about potential increases in housing costs and whether benefits will extend beyond the immediate vicinity of the studios. Officials estimate that the first four Netflix sound studios could be ready for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in approximately 18 months.
