Netflix Expands Licensing Deals, Brings Hit Shows to Exclusive Streaming

In the past year, Netflix has been actively expanding its content offerings by licensing popular shows from other networks. The streaming giant, known for its original programming like "Stranger Things" and "Bridgerton," has found success in acquiring the rights to hit shows from other platforms.

One such example is "The Hunting Wives," which originally premiered on Starz but was later licensed by Netflix. The show's first season debuted on Netflix in July 2025, and due to the exclusive streaming rights, the cast has already opted in for new seasons, which will now be released "exclusively as a Netflix-branded series."

Netflix has also licensed the streaming rights for "Doc," a Fox show that previously aired new episodes on Hulu. By acquiring the rights, Netflix was able to premiere the entire first season in October 2025, while the second season continued to air on Hulu.

Additionally, Netflix has licensed the streaming rights for "The Way Home" from the Hallmark Channel, which had previously made the show available on its own streaming platform, Hallmark+, and Peacock. This move by Netflix allows it to bring the time-traveling family drama to its own platform.

The strategy of licensing popular shows from other networks has proven to be a successful one for Netflix, as it allows the streaming service to expand its content offerings and potentially renew shows for new seasons, as seen with "The Hunting Wives."
