Harris felt increasing pressure as bloggers began focusing on his personal life. He recalled a specific instance where a publicist's comment about him not being 'of that persuasion' was misinterpreted, leading to speculation about his sexuality. This prompted him to take control of the narrative.

While not naming specific bloggers, Harris alluded to figures like Perez Hilton who actively sought to reveal his private life. Hilton later expressed deep regret for his past tactics, describing them as cruel and akin to a 'witch hunt.' Hilton mentioned he had apologized to Harris and contributed to his memoir.

Despite his fears about coming out, Harris noted the public reaction was surprisingly subdued. He admitted to being somewhat taken aback by the general indifference, expecting more surprise from those around him.
