These two pilots are being eyed as potential companions to Reba McEntire's existing NBC sitcom, 'Happy's Place.' This development contributes to NBC's pilot season success, with a total of eight orders consisting of five dramas and three comedies.
'Newlyweds' is described as a later-in-life romance about a free-spirited woman and a reserved professor who marry impulsively. The project was previously set up at Netflix with Curtis attached to star. The other sitcom, loosely inspired by real-life best friends and therapists, centers on two women who are opposites but work well together.
The Lizer, Lynch, and Sagal project comes from Paramount Television Studios, an unusual move for the streaming-focused entity. It also marks the return to broadcast television for former drama showrunner Krista Vernoff, who previously worked with Katey Sagal.
