Summary
- Dark Winds renewed for 4th season, premiering in 2025
- Zahn McClarnon to make directorial debut on the show
- Trio investigates missing Navajo girl case in Los Angeles

In February 2025, AMC confirmed the renewal of its critically acclaimed crime drama series Dark Winds for a fourth season. The show, based on the late Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn & Chee novels, follows Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), and Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) as they work together to solve a web of crimes and mysteries within the Navajo Nation in the 1970s.
The series has earned praise for its gripping storytelling and strong performances, with Entertainment Weekly noting it had "real potential" to go the distance. Now, three seasons later, that potential has clearly been fulfilled, as the network greenlit the show for another installment.
According to AMC, season 4 of Dark Winds will see the trio of officers travel to Los Angeles, where they are tasked with rescuing a missing Navajo girl "from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime." Zahn McClarnon, who plays the lead role of Joe Leaphorn, has also revealed that he will be making his directorial debut on the upcoming season, which he says "means so much" to him.
With the series' previous seasons ending with shocking deaths and unresolved conspiracies, fans can expect the new season to continue the show's tradition of thrilling, suspenseful storytelling as Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito tackle another dangerous case.
