20 Aug
Summary
- Actors face exploitation with abusive directors and poor conditions.
- Delayed payments and unpaid dues are significant industry issues.
- Actress advocates for a regulatory body to protect actors' rights.

Actress Nausheen Ali Sardar, known for her role in 'Kkusum,' has highlighted critical issues concerning basic dignity and systemic reforms within the television industry. Sardar clarified that her concerns are not project-specific but address a broader pattern of unacceptable behavior and working conditions. She stated a zero-tolerance policy for abusive or disrespectful conduct from directors and pointed out inadequate facilities like proper restrooms and lunch breaks.
Sardar described the demanding nature of working 12-14 hours daily for 25 days a month, emphasizing that such conditions, coupled with exploitation, cross a line. She believes every artist deserves fundamental dignity and respect, comparing the current situation to slavery. Her concerns also extend to significant payment delays, with actors often waiting 90 to 120 days for their dues, and sometimes not being paid at all when a show concludes.
To address these widespread problems, Nausheen Ali Sardar suggested the implementation of a regulatory authority, likening its need to a "Tukaram IAS officer" for the TV industry. She proposed a streamlined payment system where channels ensure producers pay actors within 45 days, thereby preventing the exploitation associated with delayed and unreceived payments. Her career spans over two decades in television and cinema, including roles in 'Vasudha,' 'Aladdin - Naam Toh Suna Hoga,' and films.
