Tennessee Renames Airport for Dolly Parton

Tennessee is moving to honor the late country music legend Dolly Parton by proposing to rename Nashville International Airport. Governor Bill Lee's office announced the initiative, which is being developed in collaboration with Parton's representatives. The Metro Nashville Airport Authority is scheduled to review its naming policies and the governor's proposal regarding the airport's name on Thursday, September 17.

Governor Lee emphasized Parton's profound impact on Tennessee, stating her life is "forever woven into the fabric of our state." He believes it is fitting for the airport, a gateway for visitors to Tennessee, to bear the name of "our state's favorite daughter." He further noted that the renaming would greet travelers with Parton's enduring legacy of music, generosity, faith, and kindness.

Dolly Parton, born in Pittman Center, Tennessee, passed away in Nashville on Tuesday, August 26, 2026, following a brief illness. She was 80 years old. Parton had resided in Nashville with her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away there in March 2026 at the age of 82. Despite recent health challenges, Parton remained active until her final days.
