The magical governess Nanny McPhee is poised to enchant West End audiences with a brand-new musical adaptation. Set to debut in London in the summer of 2027, this theatrical venture is penned by the acclaimed actress Emma Thompson.
The musical draws its narrative from the popular Nanny McPhee films, in which Thompson starred, and the earlier Nurse Matilda book series. It will introduce audiences to Nanny McPhee's arrival at the chaotic Brown family home, marking the character's first-ever stage appearance.
Thompson collaborated with singer-songwriter Gary Clark, who composed the music, while both artists contributed original lyrics. Directing this magical production is Katy Rudd, with Rob Howell handling set and costume design and Ellen Kane choreographing the show. Thompson expressed her profound excitement about Nanny McPhee's theatrical debut, calling the stage her natural home.
Thompson also lauded the musical collaboration with Gary Clark and expressed her thrill at director Katy Rudd bringing the story to life. While casting announcements are still forthcoming, the production is presented by Working Title Films and Universal Theatrical Group.
