A remarkable friendship spanning nearly three decades between actor Nana Patekar and Kolhapur resident Amar Jadhav has been brought to light. What began as a chance encounter in 1997 near Kolhapur's Rankala lake blossomed into a profound bond, with Jadhav remembering Patekar as a mentor and friend.
The relationship quickly evolved into collaborative social work. Together, through the Nana Patekar Vichar Manch, they championed girls' education and initiated a unique program to create a Rs 5,000 fixed deposit for every girl born on January 1st, Patekar's birthday.
Patekar's support was often immediate and impactful. He once arranged a brand-new ambulance for Jadhav's organization when their existing one fell into disrepair. The connection was so deep that Patekar joined Jadhav's daughter's wedding via video call during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kolhapur itself held significance for Patekar, with early film shoots at Jayprabha Studio. He also made a Rs 5 lakh donation to Gayan Samaj Deval Club. His humility was evident after the 26/11 attacks, when he requested a moment of silence instead of speaking at a public event.
