Summary
- Nagoshi Studio officially closed on October 31, 2026.
- NetEase Games cut funding after needing $44.4 million more.
- Game's future is uncertain after studio's dissolution.
Nagoshi Studio, the development team behind the action-adventure title Gang of Dragon, ceased operations on October 31, 2026. The studio's closure came less than a year after the game was unveiled at The Game Awards 2025.
According to a notice in the Japanese government gazette, the NetEase-funded studio was dissolved following a shareholders' resolution. This development was foreshadowed in March 2026 when reports indicated NetEase Games planned to withdraw funding for Gang of Dragon.
The publisher reportedly required an additional ¥7 billion, approximately $44.4 million, to complete the game. NetEase had previously offered Nagoshi Studio the option to continue independently, but this required the studio to bear the costs for game assets and branding.
Despite efforts to secure new sponsors or reach an agreement with NetEase, Nagoshi Studio failed to do so before its shutdown. The game's Steam page remains accessible, but its release is now uncertain. Toshihiro Nagoshi founded the studio in 2021 after departing RGG Studio.
