Nagapattinam is set to unveil a series of four curated tourism trails designed to popularise its rich history and ecological diversity. The initiative, spearheaded by the Nagapattinam District Tourism Promotion Committee, aims to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the district's heritage, flora, and fauna.
The Nagapattinam Heritage Walk, commencing on February 15, 2026, will draw attention to lesser-known historic structures, including colonial-era landmarks and port-related sites. This 3.5-hour circuit will showcase the town's layered history, shaped by Danish and Dutch influences, featuring sites like the old court campus and a 160-year-old railway station.
An eco trail to Kodiyakkarai, supported by the Forest Department, is already underway. This initiative offers guided birdwatching at wetlands frequented by migratory birds from as far as Iran and Australia. The trail also includes visits to the Kodiyakkarai Wildlife Sanctuary and a boat ride at Vedaranyam.
