Talent management and production company Fusion Entertainment has announced the development of a feature film adaptation of writer-director Ryan DeForeest's award-winning short, "My Brother & Me." The short film, which debuted at the 2024 American Black Film Festival, traces the lives of two brothers in South Los Angeles and Oakland over three decades as they navigate their relationship with their father.
The narrative delves into the experiences of Malik, who bears the brunt of his father's violence, and Terrence, who feels invisible. Despite their difficult upbringing, the brothers find solace in each other, a bond that remains central to the story. The film has received accolades, including a nomination for outstanding short form (live action) at the 56th NAACP Image Awards and screenings at various film festivals.
Fusion Entertainment co-founder Chris Evans praised DeForeest as a "rare new voice" and highlighted the story's exploration of Black fatherhood, masculinity, queerness, and the dynamics of brotherhood. The feature film is currently in development, with casting and an updated title to be announced later. DeForeest expressed gratitude for the opportunity to expand his personal story into his first feature.
