19 Aug
Summary
- Netflix has not yet renewed My Brilliant Career for a second season.
- A follow-up novel, My Career Goes Bung, offers potential source material.
- Cast members express enthusiasm for reprising their roles in a potential season 2.
Netflix's historical drama, My Brilliant Career, adapted from Miles Franklin's 1901 novel, has concluded its initial six-episode run. While the streamer has not yet renewed the series for a second season, there is potential for continuation. The original novel's protagonist, Sybylla Melvyn, is an ambitious young writer whose dreams conflict with societal expectations and romance.
Source material for a potential season 2 exists in Franklin's 1946 follow-up novel, My Career Goes Bung. This book follows Sybylla as a successful author whose autobiography causes a stir. The season one finale also left Sybylla's story open-ended after she rejected a marriage proposal to pursue her independence.
The cast members, including Philippa Northeast who plays Sybylla, have voiced their interest in a second season. Northeast hopes to see Sybylla explore new landscapes and face fresh challenges, while co-star Christopher Chung is intrigued by the potential development of his character, Harry Beecham, after his proposal rejection. The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
