Music Echoes Amidst Ruins: A Teacher's Defiance
9 Apr
Summary
- A music teacher played in his destroyed school's ruins.
- He aimed for music, not bombs, to be the final sound.
- Another musician played a tribute near a power plant.

Amidst missile attacks, a music teacher chose melody over silence in the ruins of his destroyed school. Hamidreza Afarideh, a composer and kamancheh player, returned to the devastation and played his instrument. Sunlight illuminated the shattered remains of a space that once echoed with the passion of 250 students and over 20 teachers.
Afarideh described the school as the "soul" of his and his colleague Shida's lives. He expressed a poignant uncertainty, wishing for music to be the final sound, stating, "Perhaps the last sound of this school, maybe even my last playing sound."
This act of artistic resilience mirrors that of musician Ali Ghamsari, who recently played a tribute on the tar near the Damavand Power Plant. These moments highlight a shared human instinct to create amidst destruction, akin to cinematic portrayals where music becomes a last bastion of humanity.
