The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) has developed the Museum of Word, Shabdalok, at the National Library in Kolkata. This facility, set to be inaugurated by Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday, incorporates advanced interactive technologies. These include radio frequency identification (RFID) devices, sensors that read hand gestures, and acoustically designed hallways with sound concentrators.
The core purpose of Shabdalok is to present India's extensive traditions of oral and written knowledge to contemporary society. It aims to celebrate the 'unity in diversity' across India's many languages and dialects. Furthermore, it seeks to educate children about the nation's ancient literary heritage and its distinguished authors.
Distinguished scholars formed a content review committee, including Padma Shri Chamu Krishna Shastry and professor Kumud Sharma. The museum's interactive features, such as virtual page-flipping via projection and hand gesture sensing, enhance the visitor experience. A holographic stage will also allow visitors to explore communication and 'navrasa' through Indian dance forms.
