Mumbai Ganesh Pandals Get Green Light
13 Sep
Summary
- Over 2,700 Mumbai Ganesh pandals received BMC permission by Sunday morning.
- BMC is working to improve the permission process, now offering five-year permits.
- City officials inspected key immersion sites for safety and civic arrangements.
As of Sunday morning, 2,702 Ganesh pandals in Mumbai have secured permission from the BMC, a number close to last year's figures. Civic records indicate that 4,164 mandals applied, with most seeking road space. While 17 applications remain pending, the total number of approved pandals is expected to slightly increase.
Organizers note BMC's efforts to streamline permissions, including the introduction of five-year permits. However, challenges persist with police No Objection Certificates, which are routed through the BMC and can cause delays, especially when installations are modified. The Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti president highlighted that police resources are often strained by VVIP movements prior to the festival.
In preparation for immersions beginning Tuesday, Additional Municipal Commissioner Avinash Dhakne inspected major immersion sites across Mumbai. Directives were issued to inform mandals about the BMC's provision of free cranes for idol immersion. Over 383 artificial ponds have also been readied for household Ganesh idols up to 6 feet in height.
