Disruptive Element Films has secured funding from the U.K. Global Screen Fund for a slate of four features to be produced in Thailand. The first project, "Nak Muay," is a Muay Thai action drama directed by Tinge Krishnan, with Michelle Yeoh serving as executive producer. This production is also supported by the Thai government.
"Nak Muay" centers on Yod, Thailand's undefeated Muay Thai champion, grappling with guilt over a past match that severely injured his friend Krit. As Krit's life hangs in the balance, Yod's world begins to unravel, prompting an exploration of his past and moral compass.
Director Tinge Krishnan describes the film as a visceral, action-driven narrative about resilience and redemption, set against the backdrop of Muay Thai culture. She highlights the film's focus on Yod's transformative relationships with the women around him and his quest to understand the true meaning of martial arts and his own principles.
Principal photography for "Nak Muay" is scheduled for August through September. Disruptive Element Films, a U.K./Thailand-based company, specializes in genre stories including action, martial arts, and sci-fi thrillers.
