The animated musical adventure "Mu-Ki-Ra," a collaboration between Colombia's Estefania Pineres Duque and Spain's Ábano Producions, will be presented at the Locarno Festival's Locarno Kids sidebar this August. The film, which was previously selected for Cannes' Annecy Animation Showcase, tells the story of Cleo, a 13-year-old girl, who ventures into the jungle to save her younger brother Martín after he is kidnapped by a monster.
Guided by an elderly witch and a mischievous anteater, Cleo discovers that the creatures perceived as monsters are not inherently malevolent. The narrative is inspired by Latin American childhood experiences, aiming to celebrate their resilience and confront their challenges through music and visuals. The film's producer, Chelo Loureiro, described it as an "exquisite and beautifully crafted all family film."
